Think of parking space before you think of buying a car

img

Next time you want to buy a car, you may have to find a parking space for the same as the Union Government has proposed for a new rule that will make it mandatory for all new car owners in Delhi to have a parking space for their vehicle. If implemented, the rule will demand a certificate from the nearby police station after a physical verification by the transport department that proves parking space availability for your new vehicle. Only then can the vehicle registration be done. In short, if you don’t manage to have a parking lot, you will not be able to register the vehicle.

In the present scenario, most of the resident car owners park their vehicle outside their gates on both sides of the streets leading to severe traffic congestion. This happens due to non-availability of parking space in their houses or offices. In certain cases where there are more than one car in a house with only one parking space, vehicles invariably end up being parked on the street sides. This has been a seriousproblem for some time now, and tends to grow along with the growth in the automobile demand in the country. To tackle this, the Union Government has come up with this proposal that could improve the traffic conditions in New Delhi.

"In future, no vehicle will be registered without an adequate-parking-space-available certificate," said the Union Urban Development Minister, Sri Venkaiah Naidu at a press conference in the capital state. He also added that he will be having discussions with the Road Transport Minister, Sri. Nitin Gadkari simultaneously try to bring awareness across other states as well.

This initiative, among the several other initiatives taken in order to curb decongestion in the capital will be really effective if implemented. Several states in India seem to have already implemented this move and also seen positive changes in reducing pollution to a great extent. Himachal Pradesh high court had enforced the same rule in Shimla last year where the certificate for parking space had to be approved and issued by the District Collector.
