Trending bike news The quintessential Bajaj Chetak is back, this time, with an electric motor. There has been a lot of words on the street regarding the naming of the Bajaj electric scooter. With the launch event held today at Delhi, Bajaj has put an end to the rumours.

Honourable Minister for Road Transport & Highways of India, Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari revealed the new electric scooter in the launch event. The electric scooters are manufactured under a new subdivision named ‘Urbanite’.

Bajaj began the production of its electric scooters last month in its Chakan plant. The new Bajaj Chetak is eligible for the FAME 2 subsidy scheme.

The pricing of the scooter has not been revealed yet. Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto hinted that the electric scooter in India will be positioned in a premium range.

A 4kW electric motor with an IP67-rated lithium-ion battery will power the Bajaj electric scooter. The capacity of the battery is still unknown. The scooter features two riding modes to suit the daily needs of customers - the Eco mode with an expected range of 95km and the Sport mode with an expected range of 85km.

With LED lighting all around and DRLs, the scooter looks sleek. It comes with alloy wheels and has a retro style. The two scooters featured in the event doesn’t have any graphics which adds to the retro-styling.

Bajaj will launch its Chetak electric scooter in Pune in January 2020. Later on, the manufacturer will expand it to other cities.

Ather 450, Ujaas EGo T3, Gemopai Ryder, EeVe 4U, Okinawa PraisePro, Hero Electric Dash, Okinawa I Praise, 22Motors Flow are some of the other electric scooters in India.

The Anti-Reverse Torque (A-RT) slipper clutch provides quicker upshifts and precise gear shifts for the 5-speed gearbox. Pirelli race-spec tires are provided as an option.

The Roto-petal disc brakes provided in the front and rear account for the aggressive stopping power and quicker heat dissipation. The dual-channel ABS with Rear wheel Lift-off Protection (RLP) control.

The above-mentioned features make the new TVS Apache RTR 200 4v a tough competitor for its rivals such as Bajaj Pulsar NS 200, Yamaha FZ25, Yamaha MT15, Hero Xtreme 200.
