Cars ended up with a zero rating after the NCAP crash test

News - Cars ended up with a zero rating after the NCAP crash test

• Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki Eeco, Mahindra Scorpio and Hyundai Eon • Absence of dual airbags

The news came as a shocker when the Global NCAP conducted crash test on five Indian cars and gave them all a zero rating. The unfortunate ones were the Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki Eeco, Mahindra Scorpio and Hyundai Eon. The absence of dual airbags which was a mandatory safety requirement was the main reason all five cars failed the test. Four cars were given 2 stars for child safety where again Maruti Suzuki Celerio failed. Crash test has failed in the past in India yet this news turned out to be a huge disappointment for the auto lovers. The Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) conducts assessment programmes to check the safety of vehicles in markets where consumers do not have much information on the safety standards. It also encourages emerging automobile markets to conduct its own NCAP by setting better safety regulations and norms. As a part of this initiative, the Global NCAP has encouraged India to develop its own NCAP the reason being India's astounding growth in the automobile industry, ready to leap ahead of South Korea and Germany and reach the 4th position by 2020. David Ward, Secretary General of Global NCAP stated that he was surprised to see a manufacturer like Renault had overlooked one of the basic safety requirements in its car, the Kwid. He also said that the company has committed to take corrective measures and is already working on it while the others haven't yet commented.
