German Carmaker Audi launched the A4 Diesel variant in India on Monday at Rs.40.2 lakh (Ex-Showroom Delhi). It carries the same design and features as the Petrol variant that was launched in September 2016.
The revamped LED headlamp cluster with rear dynamic turn indicators on the new generation Audi A4 Sedan add elegance and sportiness to both variants. Equipped with a 2L motor, the Audi A4 Diesel, called the A4 35TDI produces power worth 190hp and 400Nm torque while the 4-cylinder TDI engine is mated to a 7-speed S-Tronic Automatic gearbox. Power is said to have been improved by 7 percent in comparison to its predecessor. The kerb weight has been reduced by 120kgs (thanks to Volkswagen’s MLB Platform) making it as lighter as the sibling variant. As a result, the new A4 Diesel sprints at ease from 0 to 100kmph in 7.7 seconds. Fuel efficiency too shows improved figures by 7% compared to its previous generation model and claims to return approximately 18.25kmpl, as per certified reports from ARAI.
Interiors show off with the 12.3 inch Audi Virtual Cockpit that has two display modes as seen on the petrol trim. It comes with the facility to toggle between both screens to check the meter gauge on one end and infotainment on the other. Other features included are MMI navigation plus, Smartphone integration through Apple Car Play and Android Auto, wireless charging, 180 watt audio system with 10 speakers etc.
The New Audi A4 openly challenges the Mercedes Benz C-class, Volvo S60 and other sedans from its segment. Priced at Rs.40.2 lakh (Ex-showroom Price, Delhi), the A4 35TDI is expected to take off well, reason being the consistent demand in the country for Diesel vehicles since years. Audi has also manage to establish their presence here which is evident from the A3 Cabriolet facelift launched a week ago followed by the A4 Diesel. Coming months are about to witness entry of more vehicles leaving tough competition in the Indian Auto Market.
