Will India be lucky to witness the launch of Kia Stonic?

Korean automaker Kia has unveiled their upcoming subcompact SUV, Stonic. This happens days after their sister concern Hyundai lifted the veil over their new subcompact SUV Kona in the international markets. While automobile enthusiasts are still pondering over the most common questionwhether this comes as an answer to Hyundai, here are a few things that have been shared on this newly revealed small SUV.

Stonic and Kona shares a good resemblance in profile and design. Although underpinnings too have been known to be same, Stonic will possess more of Kia qualities and is thereafter expected to carry a heavier price tag as well. Kia’s design studios in Europe and South Korea takes credit for the design of this new sub compact SUV. Stonic measures 4.1 metres in length now. But Kia will have to cut down on the length with a few revisions on the bumpers to make a 4 metre SUV if it reaches India.

Exteriors of Stonic feature a tiger nose grille, sleek angular headlights with LED daytime running lights, tough bonnet, flared wheel arches, large alloy wheels and impressive character lines that enhance its brawny nature. The roofline gets a dual tone paint scheme with a combination of five colours to choose from. Interiors come with the best of ergonomics and get a large touchscreen infotainment systemcompatible to Android Auto, Apple car Play. Other features include navigation, cruise control, keyless entry and so on. Kia Stonic will be made available to the global markets in both petrol and diesel trims with both manual and automatic transmission. However, this moel will come only as front wheel drive.

While Kia has already announced its plan to reach India, this new SUV could be the first vehicle to be introduced here in the market taking into account the likes of Indians on sub compact SUVs. If launched here, it will challenge against Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford Ecosport who are the current market leaders in the segment.
