Over the last few days, India has witnessed some of the best launches in the sub compact SUV segment. The latest to join the bandwagon is Tata Nexon which is about to be launched soon in the country. Though a bit late for the party, the Indian carmaker seems to have pumped up this upcoming SUV with a plethora of first in segment features. Let us do the detailing one by one here:
Built on Tata’s Impact Design philosophy, this new comer exhibits a muscular stance, a rigid body line, and an impressive style to compete with the market players. Upfront, the elongated grill extends to the projector headlamps at both ends while chrome inserts adorn the fog lamps in the front, the windows and LED tail lights on the rear. A large chrome strip runs to both ends of the diamond shaped tail lights. Character lines are evident throughout the profile and the roof gets a contrast paint scheme making it look distinct from its competitors like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
Inside the cabin, there is a well-equipped dashboard with a 6.5 inch HD (High Definition) display touch screen infotainment system which is a first-in-segment feature placed next to the instrument cluster. The HD system is compatible to Android Auto and Apple Car play and Bluetooth connectivity while the presence of a multifunctional steering wheel makes things easier inside Nexon. There are few state of the art features like the Tata Grand Central Console (with sliding door) for plenty of storage space, climate control, rear AC vents, drive mode selector knob to switch between three modes- City, Eco and Sport for easy maneuverability through any terrain. The tall stance allows passengers to walk into the car instead of crawling in while the soft cushioned seats ensure comfortable travel despite its tough exterior.
Tata Nexon will be available in both petrol and diesel trims. The 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine (as seen on the Tiago) delivers 110bhp and 170Nm of peak torque while the 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel produces 110bhp worth power. Both engines are expected to come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard. However, an automatic gearbox option cannot be ruled out either.
With both the trims undergoing production already (Petrol option at Sanand and Diesel at Ranjangaon facility), Tata Motors has officially started to accept bookings for the same through their respective dealerships. Prices are expected to be around Rs.7-10 lakh sending tough competition to its rivals in the market as Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport and other leaders in the hot selling segment.
Volvo launched their premium SUV, XC60 in a new avatar at a price of Rs.55.90 lakh. The second generation model appears in only one variant named Inscription and is based on the company’s in-house developed SPA platform.
Jaguar Land Rover launched their much anticipated SUV offering, Range Rover Velar in India at a starting price of Rs.78.83 lakh. Bookings for this vehicle had already begun in the beginning of this month. The Tata Motors owned company has now officially revealed the prices of the different variants of this particular model that has its base variant priced at Rs.78.83 lakh and top end variant at Rs.1.37 crore.
