Scout

Even the Scout has got a good history. The first set of Indian Scout has hilted the roads in 1920-1949 period. The vehicles released in 1928-1931 period are still gets used in the wall of death activities, because of its better handling efficiency. The Indian Motorcycles company has reintroduced Scout in recent times, which was not in the market for some period. It is going to compete with the vehicles such as Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 with the legacy of many successful models.

View

Its almost similar in shape with Harley Davidson 48. The wheel base is 1562.We could call its shape “Retro”. Classic and modern factors are visible in the design. Wide frontage and narrow back area will remind its ancestors. At the very first sight we will get attracted in the huge 130/90-16 72 H front wheel. The headlamp with the chrome surround is perfectly in sink with the vehicle. The actual size of the vehicle will be clearly visible at the side view. Forward leaning fuel tank rounded front and back fents etc has got sharp lines.

The back area design is really cute. The tail end is narrow and beautiful. Charming tail lamp on the beautiful back fends. Round, turn-signal lamps as same as many cruisers. The back wheel is 150/80-16 H., The extravagant usage of chrome is visible in the entire design. The chrome trim engine gives a classic look to the vehicle. A simple instrument cluster with a analogue speedometer, digital display, and warning lamp. No fuel gage. Takko, odo, trip meters engine temperature gageetc are include in digital display. Switches are made out of quality plastics.

Ride

It is not easy to describe and include the features about the performance of Scout in this small article. That much wow factors are there with Indian scout. The performace of V Twin engine with 1133cc, fully liquid cooled, DOHC, 100hp power etc is really wonderful.100 Hp power, 5900 RMP, 97NM torque etc are the output of this refined engine. It will run in search of new speeds with the sporty accelerations and efficient mid range. It will achieve 140km speed per hour in the third gear as well.

img

The shift of 6 speed transmission with wet clutch is very smooth and accurate. Scout has got rough clutch as same as many other American Cruisers which gives unnecessary strain to the left hand. The Scout is very easy to handle with its low weight, which is 253kg and 655 mm seat height. Front brake is 298mm disc with single piston caliper and back brake is 298mm disc with dual piston caliper. Suspension in front is telescopic forks and back is dual shocks. MBS is there for the additional safety. Expected fuel efficiency is 20km per litter. Scout comes with a list of accessories to customize the same. Its price starts from 14.4 lakhs (Ex-showroom Kochi.

DUKE 250- The new cub of the coalition
Ever since its Indian debut through a healthy collaboration with Bajaj, back in 2012, the celebrated Austrian motorcycle brand KTM has very well managed to enthrall the aspirant 'performance' (literally) biker in the average Indian with their shallow, yet powerful lineup, consisting of the RCs and the Dukes in their 200 and 390 guises. As part of the inevitable effort to cope up with the endless tide of time, the bikemaker had recently launched the latest avatars of these ready to race sets of wheels. That seemed fine and not so surprising then, but what left us with eyes popped out was the automaker adding up another model to its Duke lineup, dubbed the Duke 250- the fresh at heart, quarter liter naked bike. Its nothing else that we are now going to spend our time with...

New Datsun redi-GO 1.0L
BIGGER AT HEART

It has been over a year since Datsun launched the redi-GO in India and the car has been selling in good numbers all this while. Though they had launched two other budget cars- the GO and GO+ earlier, none of them managed to sell much. This is when the redi-GO arrives as the ‘life-saver’ for the Japanese automaker in the country.

We Indians have been familiar with the term Jeep through many models from Mahindra. Recently did many of us come to realise that Jeep was in fact not a vehicle model, but the American Car maker brand who introduced few of the prestigious SUVs to the world since 1941. Back then, they were named American Motors and were quite popular through the ubiquitous Jeep Willys of that time.

How many visually attractive, youthful designs are appearing on the roads every day! In fact, it will not be wrong to say that the ageing process is going in reverse gear only for Mammootty and vehicle designs!

Into the midst of these, there now comes with a more contemporary shape and with a much better engine, a new star from Yamaha: Cygnus Ray ZR.

DATSUN Redi-GO
Kolkatta: A city of dirty streets and bungalow type colonies. At the same time, a city of grand residential “palaces” and skyscrapers . City of yellow-painted Ambassador taxis. It was at the last stage of a drive from Kochi to Bhutan that we landed in Kolkatta. The route to Bhutan was from Kochi to Kolkatta-Siliguri-Jaigaon.

This time, the visit to Kolkatta was with a different purpose. The purpose was to test drive the small hatchback DATSUN Redi-GO. This is the vehicle segment that sells most in India. The land of Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and Reno Quid. Into this market enters DATSUN Redi-Go. The earlier models of DATSUN were GO and GO+. Lack of standard was the reason for their failure. The Indian prefers a vehicle of high standard even if somewhat more costly. The cost-reduction focus was the undoing of GO and GO+. While driving Redi-GO, one felt that DATSUN had learned the lessons from these failures. Here follows a detailed Test Drive Report.

Vitara Brezza
All these years, Maruti Suzuki lacked just one thing inspite of earning the fan following of millions of Indians- a compact SUV. Even though an SUV Vitara was launched into the market long back, its heavy pricing and lack of a diesel variant kept it away from us Indians who had a general notion of opting any other brand instead of Maruti while planning for an expensive vehicle. But as they introduced the launch of a premium sedan Ciaz and a lifestyle hatchback Baleno retailed through its lifestyle showroom Nexa, the whole approach of people towards Maruti Suzuki changed. People came forward to buy expensive vehicles from the same brand they had ignored a couple of years ago.

Volkswagen Ameo
The customers who drive Volkswagen cars will naturally become fans of this model whether they pick to drive hatchback model Polo or luxury vehicle Passat. With German engineering as its base Volkswagen has a good exterior styling. It has also very stable handling. Volkswagen started making compact sedan named Ameo for the Indian Auto market two years back. The company was extremely cautious that this particular model cannot afford to fail in this market. The model possessed all elements required to look extremely attractive, competitive and look distinct on the road.

Royal Enfield Himalayan has been one bike that has left the media sleepless over last couple of months. This adventure tourer is destined to cruise the Indian roads especially the off roads in Gods own country, Kerala.
