Indian Automobile Market reported marginal sales growth in the month of October 2018, both in two wheelers and four wheelers segment. Let us take a look at the two wheeler brands who managed to gain positive sales figures last month, in spite of the market being unfavourable with high fuel prices and increase in prices.
In the two wheeler segment, Honda Motorcycles and Scooters Limited (HMSI) recorded 12% growth, crossing a 5 lakh milestone in the sales numbers. To be accurate, the numbers were 5,21,159 units as against 4,66,592 units sold in October 2017. Out of this, 3,22,108 units were contributed by the scooter segment. A major contribution was from Honda’s best-selling ever model Activa that also recently became the first scooter to have crossed the two crore milestone. Another performer, Honda Grazia crossed two lakhs sales last month. While on the motorcycle segment, Honda CB Shine crossed 70 lakhs sales in October. Exports too shot by 7% for HMSI altogether making it a successful month for the brand.
Hero MotoCorp registered 16.4% growth by selling 7,34,667 units against 6,31,105 units sold in the same month last year. The brand also recorded sales of over seven lakh units as in September where they managed to make a record sales of 7,69,138 units.
TVS Motors reported domestic sales figures up by 25%, while their exports up by 27% (Year over Year). Two wheeler sales figures were reported to be 3,38,988 units in the month of October of which 1,50,429 units were from the motorcycle segment and 1,51,040 units were from the scooter segment.
Royal Enfield registered flat sales at 2.98% growth with 70,044 units compared to last year October.
Suzuki Motorcycles India reported a growth of 34% with 61,768 units sold in October 2018. The major contributors were Suzuki Access 125 and the new Suzuki Burgman Street 125.
