have been working as partners in India now. Mahindra signed partnership with Ford to develop two new models, one an SUV and another an electric vehicle. They also came into an agreement to share BS-VI complaint petrol engines in return to the Ka platform which was used to build the Figo. This platform will also be used by Mahindra to develop E-Cars for India.
This partnership has been further expanded now by the sales of Ford cars in the rural areas in Mahindra’s showroom. At present 15 Mahindra showrooms located in the Tier 4+ areas are selling Ford cars and have received a good response. They are planning to open service centers for Ford soon nearby. This tie up will prove beneficial for both companies to challenge the other auto giants in the industry.
Ford is experiencing a tough time in India with low sales figures and further finds it hard in the after sales service to the customers. In Tamilnadu, the company has even changed the dealers and have been working extensively on improving the conditions. Last year it experienced a serious downfall like that in the case of General Motors who had to stop production in India. Ford has decided to act upon this situation and expects to regain the market in India through their new collaboration with Mahindra.
