The best selling bike segment in India in 2018 was the 100cc-150cc segment. Here is a list of two wheeler brands who competed well and managed to be amongst the best sellers last year.
Hero
The bikes under 150cc as we all know is ruled by Hero Motorcorp since a very long time. Hero has been a favorite brand of the common man in India ever since they started. Their customer reach is unarguably one of the factors that helped them sustain their position in the ever growing competitive market.
The top selling bike from this brand in the commuter segment is
Hero Splendor with a 100cc engine. This bike had so much to appease the common man’s commuting needs. A smoother engine and best in class fuel economy with greater reliability is what Splendor offered all the time, and that explains why these bikes irrespective of the fact that they have been here for more than 2 decades, continue to be seen in our roads. Interestingly, this one model does this without much updates or generation changes in all these years.
Hero HF- Deluxe secured second best selling model of the year while Hero Passion (110cc engine) followed with
Hero Glamour (125cc engine) right behind. These bikes may be called as the strong pillars for Hero in the market, where even higher displacement bikes like
Karizma reported poor sales after its update. Infact, reports claim that sales for Karizma has been nil during certain months.
Honda
Honda runs the show with
Activa in scooter segment and
CB Shine in their 125cc commuter segment. Other than that the brand has nothing interesting to claim, as their best seller CBR series Sports tourer hasn’t even received a mild update since its launch, except for minor cosmetic changes in graphics. Sadly, Activa’s legacy too took a hit when Suzuki launched a more interesting and attractive package,
Suzuki Access 125 to compete the best selling scooter. However, Activa still manages to earn the likes of many with its convenience features being admired in the country.
Bajaj Auto
Bajaj has best sellers in its Pulsar range, that provides bikes at almost every range. Beginning from their commuter model
Pulsar 150 to a powerful model
Pulsar NS 200 and
Pulsar 220 at a affordable price. Pulsar 150 is one of the most sold bikes in the 150cc segment last year.
Suzuki
Suzuki has been gaining some position in the Indian market that was evident with the launch of
Gixxer 150. This model managed to stand firm in the segment with a heavy competition; this was reflected in the sales figures. New launches
Burgman and
Intruder, though had distinctive styling and features didn’t attract Indians much. Suzuki performed well in the scooter segment with Suzuki Access that managed to be on the top selling charts. This model also received a special edition recently that upped the brand graph once again.
