Audi Sport has infused some advanced tweaks in the TFSI power train of the company's latest edition Q3 RS. The popular SUV shelters under the hood, the firm renowned 2.5 litres 5 cylinder engine that can generate nearly 400 Horses at around 1950 RPM and a significant 480 Nm torque at 5850 RPM.
Packed compactly within a length of 500mm, the new unit weighs around 26 kg less than the earlier model. Just by making the engine crankcase out of Aluminum has also facilitated a weight reduction of 18 kg.
Owing to the new Plasma-coating on cylinder liners, Audi Sport has managed to reduce the internal friction in the revised power plant. The engine crankshaft has also undergone few design changes, that include a reduced main journal bearing size of 6mm and a hollow bored crankshaft centre, both of which have brought down the component weight by 1 kg. The engine pistons, also made of aluminium, have integrated channels for oil cooling.
The suffix “RS” is adapted from the German RennSport and literally translates to 'Racing Sport'. The initials impart a sporty feel through the sense of hearing! To stand up to the mark, Audi Sport has a set of firing order of 1-2-4-5-3 to the five cylinders, alternating between the adjacent cylinders and those which is apart from one another. This particular sequence, along with the odd number of firing cylinders, imparts the characteristic ‘Racing Sport’ feel to the Q3 with the unique engine melody.
Apart from great performance numbers, the New Q3 RS provides a combined fuel consumption which is ranging between 8.8-8.9litres/100 km (11.3km/l) and combined CO2 emissions between the 202-203 g/km.
