Kona Electric also became the world’s first electric subcompact crossover SUV when the vehicle was launched by the South Korean automobile manufacturer in its native country last year. This Rookie won the 2019 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award; a subcompact crossover SUV has never won this title previously.

Electric can run 452km on a single charge. In the Indian conditions, the driving range might vary and the average driving range will be close to 350km. The electric motor provides a power output of 136ps (134.14hp) and provides a humongous torque of 40.27kgm (394.9137955Nm). These ensure that the car soars into 100kmph from standstill in just under 10 seconds(9.7s to be precise). A powerful 64 kWh drivetrain version is available globally but not in India. There are 3 driving modes- Sport, Eco, and Comfort; Sport mode adds excitement to the driving experience.
The front section of the car is an eye-catcher with sleek LED lights, distinctive split type LED headlamps with LED DRLs, active air flap in the front bumper, and a closed grille. The aerodynamically optimized wheels and underbody complements the looks very well.
Wireless phone charger, electric parking brake, 10-way power driver's seat with lumbar support, front ventilated and heated seats decorates the interior of the vehicle. Another attractive attribute is the smart electric sunroof with enhanced safety features.
The 2017 Hyundai Kona has a 5-star safety rating from the EuroNCAP. The NCAP rating of the present Kona Electric is not available at the moment. Nevertheless, the car is pretty safe with 6 airbags, Vehicle Stability Management that avoids loss of control during sudden braking or rapid accelerating under asymmetric road conditions, Electronic Stability Control, Virtual Engine Sound System that warns pedestrians with an engine sound, ISOFIX, etc.
