• 2017 Ford EcoSport launched in five variants

• Available in new Dragon Series Petrol engine

• ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 17kmpl(Petrol) and 23kmpl(Diesel)

At a time when compact SUVs weren’t quite common on the Indian roads, American Carmaker Ford had launched the EcoSport into this new segment and also managed to win the hearts of many. After years since its entry, this model is back again with a facelift version that claims to have addressed the flaws it missed out on the previous versions. And yes, the EcoSport 2017 looks more attractive than ever before.

First look at the vehicle shows glimpses of modern design upfront that is enhanced by the provision of new grille, swept back projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights and redesigned fog lamp enclosures. Rear profile does not have much to brag as it quickly resembles of the previous generation model.

Ambiente, Trend, Trend+, Titanium, and Titanium+ are five variants introduced under the New Ecosport. Titanium+ gets 17 inch alloy wheels and a host of additional safety features as Electronic Stability Control, Cruise control, Traction control and 6 airbags while other variants get 15-inch and 16-inch wheels with ABS and EBD on the safety front. Interiors boast of an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and leather upholstery on top variants while the base variants receive 6.5-inch display units.

The new EcoSport is available in both Petrol and Diesel trims, the former having received an upgrade. An all-new 1.5L Dragon Series Petrol engine makes a decent 121PS and 150Nm of torque while the existing four-cylinder 1.5L Diesel motor on the outgoing modelmakes 99PS and 205 Nm of torque. Both engines come with a 5-speed manual gearbox while the petrol mill alone is also provided with an optional six-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. As per ARAI, the petrol trims are expected to receive a fuel efficiency of 17kmpl on the manual variant and 14.8kmpl on the Automatic variant while the diesel trims promise 23kmpl.

Prices begin at Rs.7.31 lakh for the petrol variant and go up to Rs.10.99 lakh while for the diesel variants it begins at Rs.8.01 lakh ranging to Rs.10.67 lakh (all ex-showroom prices).
