India’s very own SUV maker is now ready to rival the Japanese and the America’s big muscles, Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour with the launch of their latest model Alturus G4. Alturas demands a commanding road presence with the longest wheelbase and the widest of the lot.
Engine & Gearing
This massive car gets a 2157cc, four cylinder unit which is capable of producing 181bhp and 420Nm of torque to pull this engine.The power figures are slighty higher than the competitors with four cylinder engines, while the Ford&Toyota produces 160hp@177hp respectively. However the Ford has a bigger five cylinder engine which cannot be compared with these 4 cylinders.
This engine is mated to a 7-speed Torque convertor Auto transmission sourced from Mercedes-Benz.
This car has two options a normal 2wheel drive version for city drives and a 4*4 option to exhibit its SUV nature. It gets all the offroading goodies you would want like the Hill descent control, Hill hold assist, 4wheel drive selector knob with Shift on the fly and low range is on offer too.It has a great 244mm ground clearance for easy manuevarability through any terrain.
Features and Safety
Alturas is loaded with a ton of features, it has got quilted leather and brushed metal to enhance the luxury feel of a premium SUV. It also receives class leading electrically adjustable ventilated front seats, 360deg parking cameras, powered tailgate, a sunroof, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. It has got a customizable TFT screen on the instrument cluster. The second row seats are wide due to the wider body and has got reclining seats too. But the only noticeable flaw is the third row seat with very small glass windows with which could be a disadvantage, especially for passengers with claustrophobia.
This car comes with nine air bags which is a segment first feature. It also gets ABS with EBD and ESP with Active Roller Mitigation to go par with them. And the good news is that this vehicle has also been rated 5stars at the Korean NCAP.
Mahindra Alturas G4 as a whole package offers a lot with many class leading features and enhanced premium feel added to it. Prices begin at Rs.26.95 lakh and go up to Rs.29.95 lakh and competes well with Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
