The previous generation Ertiga was a success due to its bigger spacing inside and an affordable price tag for a 7 seater with all the modern amenities, back at that time that helped Maruti Suzuki sell them for the past 6 six years. It had been a segment leader as there were no other competitors for it. As market conditions changed, its outdated styling and tech features mattered which were made even worse by the introduction of Marazzo by Mahindra.
Marazzo was launched with all latest tech goodies and at a reasonable price. This made Maruti consider the need to update their MPV and conquer the segment leadership once again.
The new Ertiga has new in everything- new looks, a new mild hybrid petrol engine, new interiors and the car look absolutely new and dashing. Maruti Suzuki has begun to accept bookings and hopes to deliver units within two to four weeks of booking time with a production rate of 100 vehicles every day.
Maruti Suzuki has done a great job with the Next Gen Ertiga in terms of designing and it comes loaded with features as they have done with their new Swift. With its new platform, it has increased in overall length of 100mm that adds to convenience. The vehicle dimensions are 4395mm on length, 1735mm on width, 1690mm on height and 2740mm on wheelbase. Ertiga now has a turning radius of 5.2m, although the 15” alloys look smaller for a car of this size.
The car comes with all the features you would want at this price segment such as a push button start, keyless entry, Apple car play, Android auto across the top Z+ models and dual airbags and ABS standard across the range and even more to please you … after all you know it’s a Maruti!
It shares its features list with Maruti Dzire and a little bit more for its size.
Engine & Gearing
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga 2018 is now powered by a new 1.5 litre petrol engine producing 103bhp of maximum power and a peak torque of 138Nm which was first featured in Ciaz. It also has a mild hybrid system that renders better fuel efficiency of around 17kmpl.
The diesel engine is a 1.3 litre 4 cylinder unit producing 90bhp and 200Nm respectively. The diesel engine has seen no change as it is one of the best diesel engines available in the market with a claimed fuel efficiency of 22kmpl and this engine too comes with a mild hybrid system. This engine is mounted on Heartect platform which are seen on most of the latest Maruti Suzuki cars.
The petrol version is available in both automatic and manual versions with the automatic being a 4 speed torque converter while the manual is a 5 speed unit. However, the diesel has been launched only in the manual gearbox options.
It is expected that Maruti Suzuki is working on adding a CNG kit to their newly developed 1.5L engine, code named K15B to even increase the mileage accompanied by their smart hybrid technology which will largely reduce your fuel bills and is expected to be launched within the next 6 months.
