Tata Motors is all set to launch the electric version of their small car Nano in a new brand name Neo, by joining hands with Coimbatore based JayemAutomotives. In March, the two companies had entered into a joint venture to produce special vehicles in the country.
Tata Motors will supply the shell of the phased out Nano to JayemAuto who will work on assembling and powering them with electrical engines sourced from Electra EV and retail them into the market under the brand name Jayem Neo. The first set of vehicles produced will be handed over to Ola Cabs, a leading cab operator in the country.Tata Motors seem to have won an order worth 10,000 electric vehicles from the Government of India.
The Neo is powered by a 48 volt electric engine and produces 23bhp worth power. It runs around 150kms on a full charge with air- conditioner. Prime Minister NarendraModi will be launching the first batch of this new electric car in Hyderabad on the 28th of November.
