• Toyota Vios sedan to reach India by 2018
• The Indian spec model could feature a Diesel trim with CVT gearbox
• Vios to challenge Hyundai Verna and Honda City
Toyota plans to launch the Vios sedan in India by the mid of next year. This popular vehicle from the Japanese carmaker’s global portfolio is slated to make its appearance in the country challenging the prime rivals Honda City and Hyundai Verna . As per reports from an automobile portal, the company also seems to be working on local production of the vehicle to manage the competitive prices within the segment.
Toyota raiseditself to fame in India, with its extremely successful models Innova and Fortuner in past years, but never managed to have best sellers in other segments as sedans or hatchbacks. With the launch of Vios in India, the company might make its presence in the highly competitive sedan segment too. Toyota Vios will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 after which there will be more clarity on the specifications of this model. Last year, this model was launched in Thailand and India too might get the same model.
The Vios on sale in Thailand has projector headlamps with LED DRLs, high raised grille, sporty looking air intakes, new fog lamps and 17 inch alloy wheels to highlight the exterior looks. While the massive boot remains proportionate enough, the cabin doesn’t lookthat impressive. Toyota will have to revamp the interiors to entice the Indian audience who has already witnessed the dashing interiors of Honda City . Vios comes with superior features like keyless entry, touch screen infotainment system, leather seats, and automatic air conditioning and so on.
While the Thailand spec model gets only a 1.5L petrol engine, the Indian spec one is expected to get a 1.5L Petrol and a 1.4L Diesel engine mated to 5-speed manual transmission and CVT transmission.
