Yamaha XSR155 was unveiled in Thailand recently and since then, we Indians have been keeping eyes and ears open for any news from the company about its launch in India.
Apparently, this model is for the international market but there is ample reason as to why we could expect it to be launched in our country as well. One, the bike shares its underpinnings with Yamaha MT-15
which is already retailing in our country. Two, it is the season of retro motorcycles in India and yes, Yamaha XSR155
is the entry level retro motorcycle from the brand. With Jawa
and the expected soon to launch Yezdi creating news in the market, presumably the launch of this motorcycle too would be welcomed with an overwhelming response.
The Thailand spec Yamaha XSR155 comes with a 155c, VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) engine that makes 19.3bhp and 14.7Nm of peak torque, paired to 6-speed gearbox enabled with slipper clutch. The engine, USD suspension fork and swingarm are taken from the Yamaha YZF R15 V3.0
while the power figures resemble those of the MT-15. However, the unique retro look with teardrop fuel tank and tan coloured, ribbed, flat seat keeps the model distinct from others.
XSR 155 features round LED headlamp, round instrument cluster and a circular LED tail lamp to enhance its retro looks. However, the instrument cluster is completely digital and matches with the modern age. The handlebar appears raised compared to the MT-15, and also weighs around 1kg more too.
If launched in India, XSR155 may be priced around Rs.1.40 lakh range as the Yamaha YZF R15 and MT-15.
