Trending car news Maruti Suzuki launched its 3-door mini SUV - Jimny Sierra in 2018 for the Japanese market. Ever since then, the vehicle has always caught the attention of off-road enthusiasts in India.

Recently, the manufacturer seems to be pondering about a 5-door mini SUV for the Indian customers. Because of Maruti Gypsy has a huge fan following in India, we expect a 5-door mini SUV based on the Maruti Suzuki Jimny will hit the Indian roads. This step would help the carmaker to attract customers amidst the sluggish automotive market in the country.

The naming of the new car is going to be tricky. Will it be named after the elder sibling Gypsy to attract the fans or is it going to be Jimny, we are yet to know. Either way, the new car has been the subject of discussion already.

The Japanese version of Jimny Sierra features a 658cc engine while the global version comes with a 1462 cc K15B petrol engine. The Indian version will sport the K15B petrol engine with all-wheel-drive option. The K15B engine is already tried and tested with Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz . A standard 5-speed manual transmission will be on offer for the entry-level model. A top-spec variant with an automatic transmission might be offered for the premium customers.

Being the entry-level variant, the model lacks the 8-inch A-IVI infotainment system. The users have to settle for the integrated 2 DIN audio system. The manufacturer has cut down several features such as cruise control, push-button start, keyless entry, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wiper, etc to reduce the cost.

The exterior makes the base variant distinguishable from the higher-spec variants with halogen lamps, steel wheels, lack of skid plate and lack of roof rail.

The new Nissan kicks variant comes with black coloured fabric seats, gear shift knob with chrome finish, 6-way manually adjustable driver seat. However, the rear seat armrest with cup holders is missing.
